In 1939 three Harvard professors sponsored a contest for the best manuscripts from those that had experienced life in Nazi Germany. This program brings to life the voices behind the 260 manuscripts that were sent in by exiles from around the world. First hand stories of life in Hitler’s Germany told by those who managed to escape Germany and Austria between February 1933 and 1939. Told only with archival documents, the film is an intimate and deeply moving account of Germany and the Third Reich, and how day by day their country was crushed by the dictatorship.
